When Skies are Blue: An Everton Fan's Guide to Blue Sky
This week, Everton fans have migrated en masse from Twitter/X to Blue Sky. This post gives info for Everton fans moving to their new digital home.
In the last week, Everton’s Twitter community has shown Elon Musk the proverbial middle finger and abandoned X for Blue Sky, a rival social media platform.
This post outlines key hints for Evertonians looking to connect with fellow blues and explain a few key features to get up and running.
Set-up a Blue Sky account
Setting up a Blue Sky account is pretty simple. You’ll get a handle similar to Twitter, in the format “@(name).bsky.social”. You can sign-up for an account by clicking this link and clicking “sign-up”.
Find Evertonians
The next thing you’ll want to do is find Evertonians to follow. You can do this easily using a feature called Starter Packs
Starter Packs are lists up to 150 users on a certain topic, and there are quite a few set up. The best recommendations are the lists compiled by Jamie Mellor and the Unholy Trinity Podcast.
Here’s 5 Start-up lists with several hundred Evertonians you can follow immediately.
Once you’ve set-up an account on Blue Sky, click any of the links below
Click Follow All.
Done.
Set-up The Everton Feed
Now you’re following Evertonians, you need to (a) get followed back and (b) stay up-to-date on Everton news.
To do this, I’ve set up The Everton Feed
This will give you a “feed” of Everton related posts from any accounts, including those you follow or don’t follow.
The Everton Feed then appears on your BLue Sky Home screen - next to “Discover” and “Following”
On iOS/Android apps it looks like this.
The way this works, is that any post using any of the following hashtags will be included on this feed.
#Everton #EFC #UTFT #NSNO
So give it a try by posting the following:
#Everton fan. Will follow all Toffees who give me a #Follow
#UTFT
Block or Mute Kopites
Kopites. They hate us. We hate them.
Fortunately, Blue Sky has a feature called “Moderator Lists”. This allows you to “Subscribe” to a list and either MUTE or BLOCK all of the accounts on that list.
A Kopites Block List has been set-up, and we also add any other accounts that impersonate, abuse or we think need to be avoided.
MUTE - You won’t see any of their posts on your feed. They cannot see you’ve muted them.
BLOCK - They are blocked from seeing anything you post, and you won’t be able to see anything they post. If you block someone, they will see that you’ve blocked them.
Also, the any posts that use Everton hashtags and also contain #LFC or #YNWA are blocked.
If we add any other features, these will be announced on Blue Sky and updated here.
